Fatima Sheikh represents the true alliance of the oppressed. When Mahatma Phule and Savitribai were thrown out of their home for daring to educate Bahujan girls, it was Fatima Sheikh and her brother Usman who gave them shelter. This is the unity the ruling classes fear most—the unity of the minorities and the Bahujans.
She taught alongside Savitribai, going door-to-door in Pune, convincing marginalized families, both Dalit and Muslim, to send their daughters to school. The Brahminical historians have deliberately tried to erase her name from the books because her legacy proves that our struggles are one. We must reclaim her history to build the broader Bahujan coalition.
फातिमा शेख उत्पीड़ितों के सच्चे गठबंधन का प्रतिनिधित्व करती हैं। जब महात्मा फुले और सावित्रीबाई को बहुजन लड़कियों को शिक्षित करने का साहस करने के लिए उनके घर से निकाल दिया गया था, तो फातिमा शेख और उनके भाई उस्मान ने ही उन्हें आश्रय दिया था। यही वह एकता है जिससे शासक वर्ग सबसे ज्यादा डरता है—अल्पसंख्यकों और बहुजनों की एकता।
उन्होंने सावित्रीबाई के साथ पढ़ाया, पुणे में घर-घर जाकर हाशिए पर रहने वाले दलित और मुस्लिम परिवारों को अपनी बेटियों को स्कूल भेजने के लिए मनाया। ब्राह्मणवादी इतिहासकारों ने जानबूझकर किताबों से उनका नाम मिटाने की कोशिश की है क्योंकि उनकी विरासत साबित करती है कि हमारा संघर्ष एक है। हमें व्यापक बहुजन गठबंधन बनाने के लिए उनके इतिहास को फिर से अपनाना होगा।
