In Kerala, the caste system was so ruthless that our people were not even allowed to walk on public roads, let alone enter temples. Narayana Guru did not beg the oppressors for entry. Instead, he took a stone from the river and consecrated it himself, declaring, 'This is an Ezhava Shiva.' This was a direct strike at the Brahmin monopoly on spirituality.
His famous slogan 'One Caste, One Religion, One God for All' was a radical call for Bahujan unity. He built schools next to every temple he founded, knowing that spiritual liberation must be matched with modern education. He taught the Bahujan samaj to build their own parallel institutions instead of seeking validation from the oppressors.
केरल में, जाति व्यवस्था इतनी क्रूर थी कि हमारे लोगों को सार्वजनिक सड़कों पर चलने की भी अनुमति नहीं थी, मंदिरों में प्रवेश करना तो दूर की बात है। नारायण गुरु ने उत्पीड़कों से प्रवेश की भीख नहीं मांगी। इसके बजाय, उन्होंने नदी से एक पत्थर लिया और उसे स्वयं प्रतिष्ठित करते हुए घोषित किया, 'यह एझावा शिव है।' यह आध्यात्मिकता पर ब्राह्मण एकाधिकार पर सीधा प्रहार था।
उनका प्रसिद्ध नारा 'एक जाति, एक धर्म, सबके लिए एक ईश्वर' बहुजन एकता का एक क्रांतिकारी आह्वान था। उन्होंने अपने द्वारा स्थापित प्रत्येक मंदिर के बगल में स्कूल बनाए, यह जानते हुए कि आध्यात्मिक मुक्ति का आधुनिक शिक्षा के साथ मेल होना चाहिए। उन्होंने बहुजन समाज को उत्पीड़कों से मान्यता मांगने के बजाय अपने स्वयं के समानांतर संस्थान बनाना सिखाया।
