Rettamalai Srinivasan, or Diwan Bahadur, was a pioneer of independent Dalit politics in Tamil Nadu. He understood that our liberation could not be outsourced to the upper castes. He accompanied Babasaheb Ambedkar to the Round Table Conferences in London to demand separate electorates for our people.
He fought for the most fundamental rights—the right to walk on public streets, draw water from public wells, and enter public buildings. By establishing the Paraiyar Mahajana Sabha in 1892, he gave our people a formalized political vehicle. His life reminds us that international advocacy and grassroots organization must go hand in hand.
रेट्टामलाई श्रीनिवासन, या दीवान बहादुर, तमिलनाडु में स्वतंत्र दलित राजनीति के अग्रणी थे। वे समझते थे कि हमारी मुक्ति उच्च जातियों को आउटसोर्स नहीं की जा सकती। वे हमारे लोगों के लिए अलग निर्वाचक मंडल की मांग करने के लिए लंदन में गोलमेज सम्मेलनों में बाबासाहेब अंबेडकर के साथ गए थे।
उन्होंने सबसे मौलिक अधिकारों के लिए लड़ाई लड़ी-सार्वजनिक सड़कों पर चलने, सार्वजनिक कुओं से पानी निकालने और सार्वजनिक भवनों में प्रवेश करने का अधिकार। 1892 में परैयार महाजन सभा की स्थापना करके, उन्होंने हमारे लोगों को एक औपचारिक राजनीतिक वाहन दिया। उनका जीवन हमें याद दिलाता है कि अंतर्राष्ट्रीय वकालत और जमीनी संगठन साथ-साथ चलने चाहिए।
