Periyar Lalai Singh Yadav was the bridge that brought the radical rationalism of South India to the Hindi heartland. He didn't just read history; he published it. By translating Periyar's critiques of Hindu epics into Hindi, he attacked the very roots of cultural hegemony in the North.
The government banned his books and confiscated his press, but he fought them in the Supreme Court and won. He understood that controlling the narrative is a battle for power. He told the Bahujans to stop wasting their money in temples and start buying books. Without his intellectual groundwork, the political awakening in Uttar Pradesh would not have been possible.
