Long before others began unearthing our history, Pandit Iyothee Thass in the south boldly declared that the 'untouchables' were not Hindus at all, but the original Buddhists of this land who were defeated and stripped of their identity by caste-supremacists. He understood that identity is the foundation of power.
Through his Tamil weekly Oru Paisa Tamilan, he organized the Bahujans and launched the Sakya Buddhist Society. He taught us that to fight the oppressor, we must first reject the identity they have forced upon us. His intellectual framework laid the groundwork for the Dravidian and Dalit movements that followed, proving that cultural assertion is the first step to political revolution.

अपने तमिल साप्ताहिक ओरु पैसा तमिलन के माध्यम से, उन्होंने बहुजनों को संगठित किया और शाक्य बौद्ध सोसाइटी की शुरुआत की। उन्होंने हमें सिखाया कि उत्पीड़क से लड़ने के लिए, हमें सबसे पहले उस पहचान को खारिज करना होगा जो उन्होंने हम पर थोपी है। उनके बौद्धिक ढांचे ने बाद के द्रविड़ और दलित आंदोलनों की नींव रखी, यह साबित करते हुए कि सांस्कृतिक दावा राजनीतिक क्रांति का पहला कदम है।
